Conquest by Law: The Evolution of Indigenous-US Legal Relations

Center fellows each plan, organize, and implement one Jones Center program each academic year. Join us for this program where, virtual guest speaker Dr. Lindsay G. Robertson, Chickasaw Nation Endowed Chair in Native American Law Emeritus at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, will discuss the historical foundations and contemporary implications of federal law governing relations between Indigenous nations and the United States. Drawing from the foundational cases of Johnson v. McIntosh, Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, and Worcester v. Georgia, this event explores how legal doctrines, policies, and institutional practices have shaped—and continue to shape—Indigenous sovereignty and U.S. governance.  Food is provided until supplies last.
